Taking Cognizance

I have always silently admired this company. Has an uncanny uniqueness to it. A US based company with firm roots in India . Never really considered in the TOP league, yet always considered that dark horse in the mega deals. Never into those YoY, QoQ race that gives the analysts all information they use to run their ecosystem yet focused on their strengths rather than thinly spread with a full services play. Last but not the least, publicly listed yet knows how to set and manage shareholders expectations.

Recently a CIO who had to face a joint T Systems-Cognizant pitch for the first time asked me, ‘Who are they, some Satyam ?’. I laughed to myself. Paymaster a la Satyam, yes. No wonder then, the fundamental solidity is coming to the surface :

Cognizant Technology Solution has guided to add more incremental revenues in the twelve months ending March 2009, than what Infosys Technologies, India's second largest IT exporter, said it would add, at a time when many assumptions about the software sector are being challenged.

………………….While Cognizant has outgrown the Indian IT companies in percentage terms for many years now, this will be the first time when Cognizant takes Infosys head on in absolute incremental dollars.
